Hope everybody is enduring winter and ready for some music. I just wanted to drop in and let everyone know that we just about have an album. We’re finalizing mixes this week and will have this thing mastered next week so I hope to have a new tune or two to share shortly. The title of the album is Signal Fires and we wait with baited breath as Gabe Gets of Runaway Clothes finishes album art and merch design
All this to say, the album release show is set for Saturday, March 7 at The Pinhook in Durham, North Carolina. Any of you that are near and able enough to make it, we’d love to see you. We’re going to get a full band together to rip through some of these new tunes then hang out and make merry afterwards. We also play in Charlotte, NC Feb 12 and Athens, GA Feb 28 in the lead up and will add many more soon.
The one piece of bad news is I will not have vinyl by March. As I have found out, there are only about 20 record pressing plants operating in the country and due to the vinyl boom of the last few years, a lot of big bands and artists are back to doing huge orders and all the estimates I’ve gotten range from a 12-18 week turnaround time. But no matter, only a cause for another celebration when they get here.
Thanks as always and let me know if you have any questions about your order or shows,

In honor of our winter tour, I’m releasing a new EP called Sycamore. As it stands now, this EP will be digital download only for free or name your own price via bandcamp.
Having said that, I’d like to strike a deal. Being on the road playing music is incredible, but it’s also a huge pain in the ass in terms of scheduling, logistics, and of course cost. Therefore, the deal I’d like to make is this: if you download my music for free and like it, please share it with a couple other people you think might like it. If it’s not your thing that’s cool, but if you like it help me spread the word and I’ll be in your debt. My reasoning behind all this is that this is a simple yet accurate sample of what I do, and at minimal cost to me in terms of production, I’d like to give it away for folks already acquainted and hopefully new to enjoy.
Now, if I may say a few words about the recordings. These songs were conceived and written quicker than any others I’ve come up with. I wrote one song, Brand New, in November pretty much all in one sitting. Other than that, the rest were written in January 2014 between my place in Durham, NC and at the home of my friends in The Moon and You in Hendersonville, NC. They were kind enough to let me have the run of their place for a few days around the holidays and use their microphones and home as an all in one recording studio, writing retreat, and self serve bed and breakfast. I went up New Years day and worked on the foundations of the EP over the next few days. Back in Durham, I added some parts and recorded some songs fully that weren’t quite finished. After several weeks of learn as you go mixing aided by 1,000 year old eternal audio wizard Scott Haynes via teleconferece, I’ve thrown good reason and professional guidance to the wind and decided I’d release these home recorded tracks while on tour.
So here they are, I hope my proposal is a fair one. If not, just remember that friends don’t let friends listen to electronica. Wish us luck on the road and be sure to catch us when we come where you are.
Be sure to check out some videos of live performances shot our good friend Ian Steidle. He makes it look like we almost know what we’re doing.
Our friends and fans in Athens, Ga have treated us well each time we’ve visited and held up their end of the bargain as being a proper music town. We’re heading back down this weekend for two shows culminating with a Saturday night at World Famous in downtown Athens. It’s great to be heading back out on the road for some shows, so help us spread the word and come out and see us if you can!
Just a quick update to the lineup. Since I quite often get to play my songs with other cool music people, I think it’s high time we had a proper designation for everybody. Therefore, from here on, full band gigs will be billed as Rob Nance & The Lost Souls featuring Jordan Nance on bass and (usually) Sean Leary on drums. As this evolves and solidifies I hope to have more definitive lineup info soon. Excited to play some shows with this crew. See you there.
Yep, got a kickstarter going to help fund merch, promo, and touring to support the new album. Check it out and pitch in if you feel the spirit.
Come join us at the free CD Release show in Durham on Friday 7/19 at Motorco. We’ll have friends The Hill Hollars opening and then yours truly along with Jordan on bass and Sean Leary on Drums will work our way through all the new album material.
